About
The Perfect Picnic Blanket is a tri-tone throw with a gingham pattern that comes together perfectly to give that quintessential picnic-blanket look. It’s perfect as your go-to outdoors companion or as a classic indoors throw to add to your collection.
This pattern is also beginner-friendly, with step-by-step photos for every single part of the pattern.
Count it: this is my seventh blanket pattern! I’m really enjoying this little foray into the world of blanket design. I have about three more lined up for you, don’t you worry — and for my OG followers, I’m still dreaming up clothing designs!
Sizing
The standard blanket size is 46” (117cm) by 46” (117cm); this is the size you see in photos.
Materials
Hook: 10mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions:
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Yarn: Chunky/size 5
Color 1 is your lightest color. I used white. You will need 375 yds (343m).
Color 2 is your medium color. I used light blue. You will need 600 yds (549m).
Color 3 is your darkest color. It is also the border of your blanket. I used dark blue. You will need 300 yds (274m).
I used acrylics and wools like Lion Brand Hue and Me to make this. I recommend using a similar acrylic or wool for your own project; you can find good substitutes on yarnsub.com.
Always make a swatch before beginning to make sure you meet gauge (also important so your pattern isn’t too big or too small) and are happy with the fabric created!
