The Sicilian Summer Throw is an adorable patchwork blanket made of gorgeous granny, lemon, and tomato squares a bright palette. What a fun one this was to design — the colors are out of my comfort zone, but I’m so happy with how this turned out!
This pattern is also beginner-friendly, with step-by-step photos for every single part of the pattern.
This design was originally made for my book, Crochet Retro Blankets in 1 Week. The book includes its matching pillow pattern, too!
Sizing
The standard blanket size is 40" (102 cm) wide and 49" (124 cm) long; this is the size you see in photos. There are instructions for customized sizing included.
Materials
Hook: 6.5mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions:
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Yarn: Chunky/size 5 weight
I used Cascade Yarns 128 Superwash to make this. I recommend using a similar acrylic or wool for your own project; you can find good substitutes on yarnsub.com.
Always make a swatch before beginning to make sure you meet gauge (also important so your pattern isn’t too big or too small) and are happy with the fabric created!
Pattern Notes
Skill Level: Beginner/Advanced Beginner
Sizing: This design is written for one size, as detailed in the “Sizing” section above. There are instructions included if you want to adjust to a different size.
Construction: This design is worked first in squares, which are then stitched together to create a large swath of fabric before the border is worked.
