The Kaleidoscope Pillow is a cushion with a spectacular, bright design worked in a colorful palette. It’s perfect for decor in any room that needs an eye-catching piece!
This pattern is best for intermediate crocheters, but with step-by-step photos for every single part of the pattern, a confident beginner could complete it.
This adorable decorative pillow is the matching pair to the Kaleidoscope Blanket -- both designs are included in my new book, Crochet Retro Blankets in 1 Week, alongside 19 other matching throw & pillow sets.
Sizing
The standard pillow size is 15" (38 cm) wide and 15.5" (39 cm) long; this is the size you see in photos.
The following sizing & yardage chart is straight from the pattern PDF:
Materials
Hook: 5mm or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions:
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Bobbin holders (I used bobby pins)
~250g polyfil stuffing or 16 x 16-inch (41 x 41-cm) pillow insert
Yarn: Aran/worsted/size 4; for amount needed for each color, see sizing chart above
I used wool like Cascade Yarns Superwash 220 Aran to make this. I recommend using a similar acrylic or wool for your own project; you can find good substitutes on yarnsub.com.
Always make a swatch before beginning to make sure you meet gauge (also important so your pattern isn’t too big or too small) and are happy with the fabric created!
Gauge
Note: Gauge is not super important for this project, but knowing if your tension is similar to mine will help you figure out if you’ll need more or less yarn than what I have listed.
4 x 4 in (10 x 10 cm) = 17 sts and 16.5 rows in single crochet
If your swatch is too small, try using a bigger hook. If it's too big, try using a smaller hook.

Sizing: This design is written for one size, as detailed in the “Sizing” section above. There are instructions to adjust to a larger size if desired.
Construction: This design is worked row-by-row, with color changes throughout to create the design.
